Changing Asia, Multi-Program – CAMP at Taiwan

“It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…*” Under the impact of unprecedented financial storms and extreme weather changes, the fate of human being seems to be at a cross road. Knowledge no longer seems to be useful and wisdom is under crucial test. It’s hard to change what have happened but we may start to stop doing something ourselves and do something to avoid the coming generations to repeat the similar mistakes such as greed, complacence, and ignoring the abuse of the Nature. Yet are our children and youth equipped with right attitude and skills to deal with controversial concepts and values?

Children and youths are at a difficult time nowadays universally. Beyond imagination of people in Asia, the urge arises in North America to “leave no child inside” in recent years. Over exposure to examinations and electronic devices may cause children and youths become self-centeredand is harmful to self-discoverysharing and teaming with others, and experiencing real world and the Nature.  On the other hand,  effective camp experience can help lightening their brain, opening their mind, and softening their heart.

Camp practitioners, educators, and academics come along join AOCC2009 and shed some lights on how to get more children and youths to camps, and how to provide them with effective learning program and environment. Let’s share the efforts on development of children and youths to striving for better life for their own and the mankind as a whole.

Forest Camping

- Feel the Tranquility

In Taiwan, the Forestry Bureau is planning to open up the national forest recreation areas for camping. This certainly increases the opportunity for more people to experience the mountains, the most valuable treasure of the island. Yet, the balance between leisure and education purposes and conservancy of the nature is swinging on the scales. As we are happy to embrace camping in the forest, we also like to address the concerns of sustainability.

A Feast of Camp Practice, Skills, and Research Results

We estimate that there will be over 350 participants from Taiwan and at least 150 participants from other countries to join AOCC2009. We plan to invite 3-5 keynote speakers and offer at least 60 presentation and workshop sessions. In addition to sharing and learning, AOCC2009 allows camp practitioners around the globe to meet and form alliance to enrich programs, exchange staff, and explore further benefits and cost reduction. We further offer a trip mainly for overseas guests to tour around Taiwan. Located at the center of Asia Pacific Rim, rich of cultural texture and ecological wonders, Taiwan can be an ideal site for adventure, experiential and Mandarin Chinese camps.
